Oh how we contentedly deceive ourselves
Our lessons never learned
We think it must be “our luck” and forget
Playing with fire gets you burned
Why do we further futility
Always repeating the same
Yet expect this time to be different
Our rationale becomes insane
We pay no mind to history
But expect time to reveal
A secret, miracle antidote
That will instantly make us heal
We wait to be handed the answer
And in the mean time we succumb
To all that would deprave us
We acquire a taste for crumbs
We create our own shortcuts
When the path to true happiness gets hard
We want sycophants and disposable truth
Goodness becomes easy to discard
Our bodies are ours to treat like toys or trash
For “love” we’ll endure the bruising
It’s our “right” to redefine appropriate
We live like there’s no consequence from using
Our evolution is conditioning
To believe no one’s right, no one’s wrong
See, Hear, Speak No Evil
Has become our anthem song
Turning morals into children’s stories
Boundaries penetrated like Troy’s wall
A fine line between altruism and apathy
And over that edge we fall
Good judgment is an oxymoron
Those who discern are despised
Discriminate has become a dirty word
Gone are the days of refusing to compromise
Now it’s easier to fight for choice than truth
But tolerance is a wolf disguised
The more that everyone is right
The more our pain is on the rise
